Factors and Multiples

FACTOR FRENZY!!

Factors are numbers that are multiplied to get a product.

Jared has 12 flowers. He wants to plant them in his garden in equal rows. How many different arrangements of equal rows can Jared plant his flowers?

Step 1: Find all the multiplication equations that have a product of 12.

1 x 12
12 x 1
2 x 6
6 x 2
3 x 4
4 x 3

Step 2: List each factor ONLY ONCE.

Step 3: The factors of 12 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12

MULTIPLES MANIA!!

Multiples are the product of a whole number and any other number.

The multiples of 2 are: 2,4,6,8,10,12...... (skip counting)
All multiples of 2 are EVEN numbers.

The multiples of 5 are: 5,10,15,20,25,30....(skip counting)

All multiples of 5 have either a 5 or 0 in the ONES place.

If you multiply 5 x an EVEN # the product will have a 0 in the ones place.
If you multiply 5 x an ODD # the product will have a 5 in the ones place.

Check out this link for fun songs for all the multiples! We've listened to several in class already! :)
