Prime Numbers are numbers with ONLY 2 factors.
Those factors are 1 and itself.
Composite Numbers are numbers that have more than 2 factors.
Here is the Sieve we did in class today (and should be in their Math notebooks). Using the numbers 1-100, we crossed out all the multiples of 2, 3, 5, and 7. The remaining numbers that were not crossed out, are PRIME.
These charts are a fabulous reference for determining prime & composite numbers. These are also glued in students math notebooks. |
REMEMBER:
- The number 1 is neither prime nor composite because it's only factor is 1.
- The number 2 is the ONLY EVEN PRIME number.
- Just because a number is ODD, DOES NOT mean it is prime!!
- Examples are 9, 15, 25
Check out this video to help you remember what the prime numbers are from 1-100!
